Fall Off Your Wellness Wagon?

By
Laura Dion-Jones

“Success is how far you bounce
after you hit bottom.”

General George S. Patton

Dear Laura:
I fell off my diet and fitness wagon and I’m back at 159 lbs! I started following your advice about a year ago when I was at 162 lbs and went down to 139 lbs, but now I’m up again.
I never really allowed myself to reach my goal of 125-130, which would be wonderful for my petite height.
I think my hormones are playing a big part. I started pre-menopause (Keep it a secret, it makes me feel like I’m entering middle age!).
I had lost my weight and maintained it on The South Beach Diet, but didn’t stick to it all during the week, like you advise. I failed to make it my lifestyle.
Now look . . .
Do you think I should go back to that diet?
I need your words of motivation and advice.
D

Dear D:
If you’re lookin’ for the “Easy Button” of diet, health and fitness plans – there ain’t one.
My biggest words of advice: Get back on that low carb diet ASA you can!
Cut the dang white starch and sugar carbs!!!
And squeeze in that hour of cardio every single day – no matter what the “experts” say. A good, healthy, effective diet/lifestyle eating plan and daily cardio go hand in hand. Period. Anything less than an hour a day – and you’re just spinning your wheels.
You know what works for you from your last dieting attempt with The South Beach Diet. Low carb. You had tremendous success with it. Why not try it again?
Sooner or later, you’re gonna get sick of the yo-yo and just do what it takes to get your weight off and keep it off – once and for all.
Get your SB diet book out and reread the quick start and begin again – right now – for your very next meal.

Either you’re gonna do it, or you’re not.
And all those yummy desserts you bake for your co-workers’ applause are your biggest downfall. The bananas you use in your award-winning b-bread are poison for a low carb diet – and to anyone that overproduces insulin – like you, like me. And I know you eat those ‘naners cos you’re always lovingly talking about them!
You forgot what worked for you in the first place was cutting the carbs.
Carbs are your enemy.
Insulin’s the “fat hormone,” not dietary fat.
Reread my book Commit To Get Fit: Find the Secret to Your Own True and Everlasting Weight Loss, for even more motivational magic.
Then begin again.
Do some serious soul searching to see where you're really going wrong with your eating, and no fair blaming it on hormones. Don't get me started there.
It’s your carb consumption, Girlfriend, pure and simple.
And lack of daily cardio. So get back into it, no excuses. Start walking again. Spring’s here! Trust me on this.
All I can tell you is this: I’m maintaining my weight into my 9th year cos I follow my own best advice.
There is no going back to fat, no falling off that wellness wagon for me – and right now, you’re being dragged behind it!
There’s no food on earth that’s worth a weight loss backslide.
I know better now and, once you’ve tasted weight loss success, so should you.
You have to make that diet, whichever one you chose, your forever eating lifestyle. Period. There is no other way.
You gotta wanna do it. I can’t come do it for you.
You know my number. Call me if you’re really in trouble.
Or better yet, tune in to my Monday night cable TV show, “Commit To Get Fit With Laura Dion-Jones” from 7-7:30, and then please join us on Tuesday evenings from 7-8 PM CST for “C2GF After the Show” for more motivational weight loss and wellness tips and advice. Both shows are available to watch and listen live right from my website, www.commit-fit.com.
Hugs and best,
Laura

Become Your Own Champion

By
Laura Dion-Jones

“To be a champ, you have to believe in yourself
when nobody else will.”

Sugar Ray Robinson
(1920-1989, American boxer)

I’m lucky. I’ve always believed in myself - even now when I feel insecure and have doubts. When I was younger, I was told I was less by those who mattered most. Then I grew up. And I made sure I grew strong. And I made sure I always had the total support of my self – no matter what.
A lot of people who come to me for motivation, weight loss and fitness help don’t have any support at all. Instead, they hear how fat they are, how they couldn’t lose weight if their life depended on it, how they can’t do anything right, how worthless they are, how stupid and ugly they are, and a whole lot more. Life is tough enough without all that devious drama from one demon after another.
Sometimes the weight loss part is the least of it. Sometimes it’s just proving to yourself that when all else fails you can do something, anything, that’s positive and good for you, too.

Begin now to prove to yourself that you’re stronger than those who say you can’t; stronger than any favorite foods that are keeping you fat; stronger than being lazy and not getting out to exercise daily.
I know for me, besides my sometimes dicey physical situation, it became an issue of control – if I could do nothing else right in my life, I could have command over how much I ate and how much I exercised daily.
This was at a time when everything in my life was out of my control, and I mean everything, or so I thought.
I figured if I could do nothing else right, if nothing was working in my favor, I could at least learn to gain power over my self, my eating, my weight loss and my daily walking.
I did everything I could, including calling on a higher power, to convince myself that I could do it, that I could lose those 150 pounds I needed to lose and I wasn’t stopping until I did.
Being master of my fate means more to me than staying fat, more than all the chocolate, all the sweets, all the breads, pastas, potatoes, rice, cookies, cakes, pies, ice cream, or Ding-Dongs on the planet.
It has to mean more to you, too.
So, stop foolin’ around. Get on with it. You know what to do by now. You know how to eat right. You know that you have to exercise daily. There is no other way to get the weight off. And keep it off.
Besides, summer’s just around the corner. If you think you’re uncomfortable right now – just wait . . .
To be a champ, you truly have to believe in yourself when
no one else will.

Never Give Up On Your Dream

By
Laura Dion-Jones

“Never give up on a dream
just because of the time it will take to accomplish it.
The time will pass anyway.”
Earl Nightingale

Don’t let today’s frigid, first day of spring fool ya – but at 7:02 AM, Wednesday morning, spring officially arrived.
Now everyone needs to spring into action and take hold of their weight loss and wellness and get into a healthy lifestyle frame of mind.
Winter’s gloom is almost over and it’s time to get our butts outside and do more things in the warmer weather - namely, daily cardio walking!

What’s it gonna take for you to make a Commitment to yourself to Get Fit and let me help you find the secret to your own true and everlasting weight loss?
What’s it gonna take for you to schlep your walking shoes to work for a nice lunchtime jaunt around the parking lot, forest preserve, trail, block, or up and down about 10-20 flights of stairs – squeezing in a bit of much-needed daily cardio?
What else do you do on your lunch hour but blab, waste time and feed your face – with the wrong stuff anyway?
And developing this healthy walking habit will also help you alleviate stress along with everything else that ails you
      Trust me.
If your dream is to be svelte or Speedo-worthy by summer, what’s standing in your way – but y-o-u?
Figure out what your roadblock to getting fit is and rid yourself of it
Meditate about it, pray about it, but whatever you do – take steps to obliterate that obstacle and get your butt moving in a much healthier direction.
Combine your daily cardio practice with a good, healthy, low carb eating plan and watch what happens. Your weight will literally melt off like magic, I promise, but you gotta wanna – and you have to be dedicated and diligent in your efforts – you know you can’t do anything like this half-assed.
You have to be ready to give it your all – and that means you have to make up your mind to begin right now, today, right where you are.
Regardless of what food you have in your house and fridge – eliminate everything that doesn’t support your new health and fitness eating plan.
Ditch the oatmeal, cereals, breads, pastas, cookies, and cakes. Purge all the rest of those white starch and sugar carbs lurking around and get yourself going . . . better to give these things to friends who can afford to eat them or throw them away – cos if you don’t, you know what you’re doing?
You’re wearing it all – and it shows . . .
Never give up on your dream to be healthier and more fit just because of the time it will take to accomplish it.
What else do you have to do with yourself?
The time will pass anyway – whether you’re stuck in your own hot mess sitting there on your sofa night after night, wishing you weren’t so fat, while watching everyone else Commit To Get Fit – or getting your butt out that door and taking your cardio walk today and everyday – for the health of it.
        It’s all up to you . . .

Create Your Own Future – Now!

By
Laura Dion-Jones

It is said that -
"Depression is the inability to construct a future."
(Rollo May)

If so – it’s no wonder a lot of you are increasingly depressed with your struggle to lose weight.
And, is it any wonder that you feel helpless when your health, fitness and mortality are at stake?
There’s almost nothing I hate more than seeing people grapple with their weight . . .

Drifting from one diet to the next – all in hopes that this time will be the last time. This time it’ll be just the “magic bullet” they’re looking for – and to think you’re gonna lose it all without daily cardio is crazy. Trust me - so get that thought outta your head right now – I don’t care what any of the “experts” say. Most haven’t been there. I have. I’ve lived a lifetime in obesity’s shoes.
A good diet and daily cardio go hand in hand to get it all off and keep it all off – once and for all. Period.
And if you don’t believe me, take this past Saturday night, for instance: I met a few Fab friends for dinner at Margaritaville at Chicago’s Navy Pier.
When my pals showed up, I was aghast to see one of them had regained all the weight she’d previously lost – plus more.
I could tell she felt self-conscious having me see her that way because of how she acted and the guilty looks she shot me.
And at the same time, I was trying to hide my sadness and disappointment at seeing her in that condition, too. She had come to far in her weight loss and wellness journey to let it all pile back on - because of carby foods and the excuse that she’s too busy to squeeze in her daily cardio.
Nonetheless, we ate like we were gonna be shot at sunrise, me included – the one who knows better. The one who needs to set a good example for others whenever she’s with them.
But it was Saturday night, after all, we each reasoned. We’re here to EAT and bond over food!
Saturday night supper is special diet dispensation no matter how you look at it, right?
Wrong. This privilege only applies after you’ve lost all
your weight . . . not while you’re trying to re-commit to get fit – not while you’re on your way back down the scale – again.
And you know when you need to absolutely put your foot down, and do something about your weight and wellness right this second because you’ll never be able to lose your unhealthy, unwanted weight once and for all if you can't construct a plan.
A well thought out health and fitness strategy is one of the biggest keys to your future fitness, health and happiness.
This is where I can help.
Tune in on Monday, April 1st at 7 PM CST for the first of 12 weekly half-hour episodes of Commit To Get Fit With Laura Dion-Jones on CAN-TV, Chicago Cable Access Network, and also available across the Universe to listen live through my website, www.commit-fit.com.

In the weeks ahead, you’ll also learn the benefits of cutting white starch and sugary carbs combined with daily cardio to end your weight loss struggle forever – if you want to.
Or, invite me to your workplace, community center, church or any other organization to help you Commit To Get Fit With Laura Dion-Jones and find the secret to your own true and everlasting weight loss.
If depression really is the inability to construct a future, I’d get busy constructing if I were you - create your new health and fitness plan that you can live with forever.
There’re lots of other things in life to be depressed about besides something you have total control of – like your weight, health, fitness and life . . .

Why Do Diets Fail?

By
Laura Dion-Jones

“Winners never quit and quitters never win.”

Anonymous

Recent expert statistics claim that diets aren’t working.
I say: Baloney!
Here’s why:
The “experts” need to redefine “healthy eating” because what’s healthy for some isn’t healthy for others – especially for those who are highly carb sensitive like me - and if you struggle to lose weight, maybe like you, too.
In listening to the medical media spout their mostly outdated diet dogma, the majority of them tout the same old - same old, which never worked for me and obviously isn’t working for you or any of the overweight people across our nation, either.
The latest buzz is that the Mediterranean Diet is the best diet above all others. I will tell you this: it didn’t work well enough for me – regardless of the health benefits. I’m way too hyperinsulinemic – I overproduce insulin - and those legumes and certain fruit do me in, retarding my weight loss every single step of the way. I have to eat low-glycemic regardless of the complexity of the carb . . .

The first thing you should do is no longer think of your new eating plan as a “diet,” but as the way you have to live from now on. It’s easier than you think.
To change your lifestyle, you have to be in it for the long haul to win it.
And second, you have to begin to change your mind.
Please stop blaming race, socio-economic issues and the economy for the way you eat. You are the only one putting food into your mouth. No one else is doing it to you . . .

By making better food choices and adding a few simple changes, like, picking a healthy, effective eating plan – or as we used to call it back in the day – a “diet,” and by exercising portion control, and adding an hour of serious daily cardio into the mix, you’ll be much healthier for it.
But you really gotta wanna lose weight, and no one can wanna for you – but you . . . and it has to be something personal. Something that’s truly meaningful to you, like, you’re sick of hauling yourself around. And, believe me, I speak from past experience.
You must be fully committed from the beginning. You have to make up your mind to “Commit To Get Fit” and develop a positive mindset from the giddy-yup.
Learn to meditate: If you think you can do this alone, think again. Daily positive self-talk works wonders, but there’s nothing like daily meditation for reinforcing your resolve. Works wonders for me.
Set daily and weekly weight and fitness goals. But be sure to weigh every day and keep a record of it in your fitness journal. You do have one, don’t you? How else will you know where you’re going if you don’t keep a daily health and fitness journal? It’s your roadmap to success. Use all of your daily numbers to motivate yourself.
Once you define your diet and daily cardio, you’ll begin to lose weight, you’ll feel satisfied and energized, no longer hungry, sloppy and sluggish. If you do, you’re not on the right diet for you.
When you fall off the diet, health and fitness wagon, forgive yourself, pick yourself up, dust yourself off and begin again – the very NEXT meal. Stop beating yourself up and obsessing over it.
Need a jumpstart?
Come join us for Commit To Get Fit With Laura Dion-Jones, an Internet motivational weight loss support group beginning Tuesday, March 26th at 7 PM, and then almost every Tuesday evening for 12 weeks until June 18th.

Stop Wearing What You Eat: Take Responsibility

By
Laura Dion-Jones

“Don’t just stumble into the future.
You create your own future.”
Roger Smith
(American Business Executive)

Did it ever occur to you that you wear what you eat?
Yep . . . so take a real good look!
Becasue every day, it’s up to each one of us to decide what we will and will not put in our mouths.
Choosing to say “yes” to a healthier lifestyle is a decision only you can make, and saying yes is just the first step in making that choice a reality.
It all comes down to knowing what you really want.
Start telling the truth to yourself about where you’re at right now with your weight, and what you eat.
picture credit to Ghetto Red Hot

And if this looks like you, then believe me, there is hope. You can actually become successful in your dieting and daily exercise efforts this go ‘round - no matter how many times you’ve tried in the past.
It’s a brand new day with a brand new you waiting on the horizon.
But, it’s the old story: “You gotta wanna.”
And then you have to take positive steps toward confident, healthier choices that will get you where you want to go - with your weight, your health, your fitness, your appearance, and your life.
When you start to realize that you wear what you eat and are ready to take responsibility for the foods you consume and the exercise you do - or do not do, you will begin to see a change.
Every positive food choice you make, every step you take toward making daily walking a life-long habit, brings you that much closer to your goal of a new, thinner, healthier, happier, more vibrant and fit you.
The knowledge you gain with each step you take will empower you. You’ll begin to realize that you are totally in control of your life, your fitness - and your future.
Only you.
Knowing you are on your way to attaining your wellness goals because you are able to, because you want to, rather than because you have to, makes a huge difference in the way you continue to move forward.
When you are in control of every morsel that you put into your mouth and every step you take toward your weight loss and fitness goals, the obstacles that stand in your way become challenges you can overcome, and your journey starts to be an adventure instead of a prison sentence.
Your new you is waiting.
Your future is in your hands.
Stop stumbling into the future. Create your own.
Stop wearing all the carby-crap you eat . . .
And if you’re ready to Commit To Get Fit and find the secret to your own true and everlasting weight loss with me, email or call me and let’s begin because we’re starting an internet motivaitonal weight loss support program just for you.
We’ll “meet” once a week for an hour via a video conference call service – and go through my 12-week, “Commit To Get Fit With Laura Dion-Jones” motivaitonal weight loss and wellness program.
So if you’re looking to jumpstart your weight loss, health and wellness plan – please email me ASAP to register.
Class begins the last week of March, exact day and time to be determined. Probably Tuesday evenings at 7 PM, but I’ll let you know as soon as we have the details firmed up.
So, don’t wait to sign up cos space is limited.

They Don’t Call It Fat Tuesday For Nothin’!

By
Laura Dion-Jones

“Keys to success . . . Research your idea, Plan for success, Expect success, and just plain do it!
It amazes me how many people skip the last step!
Practice being a “doer”
and success will follow you every step of the way!”

Alfred A. Montapert
Author

Some of us live like every day is Fat Tuesday, and Boy, they don’t call it that for nothin’.
Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday, which refers to the practice of the last night of eating richer, carb-ier, fatty foods before the ritual fasting (or giving up something in sacrifice like sweets or cigarettes) for the Lenten season, which begins on Ash Wednesday. And that’s next Wednesday, is it not?

And to add insult to injury for us choco-holics, this year, Ash Wednesday falls on the day before Valentines Day!
Every year at this time, I use Lent as a way to get a good grip on my sweet consumption.
Once an addict, always an addict, I say. It’s all in how well you manage your addiction.
Once again, I’ve decided to lighten the load a little and lose about 10 more pounds by my birthday June 10th, so I’m making the bold statement of giving up ALL sweets from Ash Wednesday till Easter Sunday morning. This outta do the trick for me . . . we’ll see.
How ‘bout you? What’re you giving up for Lent?
You gotta have a plan and oftentimes people attempt to lose weight without a real one. Sure, they try to combine a healthy, effective, low carb eating strategy with daily cardio and they lose a few pounds, but get lax and lazy - and before they know it – they’ve packed all the weight they lost right back on.
And sometimes even more.
I had a plan right from the giddy-yup; experimented and improvised as I went along to find what worked for me - and what didn’t, and now I share my successful strategies with you.
I’ve found that the “Keys” to true and everlasting weight loss success truly are to research your diet – find the one that works best for you. Low carb works like a charm for me as well as for many others who constantly struggle with their weight.
Make your plan for success – write it all down every step of the way, every single day. Your weight, distance walked, even the foods you eat. Record it all in your fitness journal. Daily.
Then you just plain gotta do it!
No excuses.
Stop wishing.
Practice doing, and by all means, expect success – you deserve it.
Try it and see . . . what have you got to lose but all your unhealthy, unwanted weight.
Aren’t you worth it?
